Girls of PANDA page 1

This is page one of a story that ran in ashcan format back in the mid-90s. These are photocopies of my pencils for the comic. The comic is Girls of P.A.N.D.A. and was the brainchild of James Lomax. P.A.N.D.A. didn't stand for anything, it was just a riff on the way many spy series and movies had organizations that were known by their acronyms.

Looking back on these, I'm pretty happy with them overall. My penchant for making character's arms disproportionately large kept showing up throughout these pages, but what's done is done. The storytelling is pretty good, if not terribly imaginative. Although I've used Photoshop to sharpen the lines and give it more contrast, rest assured that the linework on these pages was extremely tight and sharp. I feel bad for the guys who had to ink this stuff, but I also have to admit that they always did an outstanding job and always made my work look far better than it did in the pencil stage.

(I would've sworn that inked these pages, but my written note refers to "Ed," which would have to be Like I said above, his inks were excellent and gave the art a lot more depth and life than I was able to.)

A slightly humorous aside: James always abbreviated Girls of P.A.N.D.A. as "GoP," which made for some entertaining reactions whenever he visited internet forums to promote the concept. He had to clarify what "GoP" stood for in order to keep from derailing the topic.
